Frauen-Bundesliga

The Frauen-Bundesliga was formed in 1990 and was modelled after the men's Bundesliga. To begin with, the top-tier was divided into north and south divisions however in 1997 both divisions merged into one uniform league. The first winners of the Frauen-Bundesliga were TSV Siegen who won the league in back-to-back years in the first seasons. Since the foundation of the league, only 1. FFC Frankfurt have remained in the top division throughout (being renamed to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2020).
