Following agreements made between VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln, Luca Waldschmidt is set to join Köln once again for another season next year in the 2. Bundesliga.

The club website has confirmed the information today and states that the player signed a deal with the club despite the purchase option clause having expired.

Reports suggest his new contract takes him until the year 2027, and will see him more than willing to play in the 2. Liga despite previous claims.

The negotiated transfer fee is not clear as of yet, but it is believed that it is significantly lower than the €3-4 million initially offered (Geissblog) in the purchase clause within the loan deal.

A lack of real striking options may have been a main driving factor behind this transfer.
