Mats Hummels
Background
Mats Hummels began his career in the Bayern Munich academy, joining the senior team in December 2006 as he signed his first professional contract.
In the 2006-07 season, Hummels made his first and only appearance for Bayern during his first spell at the club in the final game of the Bundesliga season.
In January 2008, Hummels joined Borussia Dortmund, initially on a loan deal. In February 2009, during his loan spell he was signed on a permanent basis for Borussia Dortmund for €4 million and he made thirteen appearances in this campaign.
Hummels won his first major trophy at Dortmund in 2011, winning the Bundesliga trophy. The following season, Mats Hummels (under coach Jürgen Klopp) won the league and cup double.
Next season, it was a story of second-place finishes as Hummels finished runners-up for BVB in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga.
In the summer of 2014, Hummels won the World Cup with Germany (scoring the winning goal against France in the quarter-finals)>
In May 2016, it was announced that Hummels would rejoin Bayern Munich on a five-year deal for €35 million.
During his spell at Bayern, Hummels won three consecutive Bundesliga titles as well as a DFB-Pokal and three DFL-Supercups.
In June 2019, the thirty-year-old Mats Hummels made a much-anticipated return to BVB for a fee of €30.5 million.
His last trophy at Dortmund was the DFB-Pokal victory over RB Leipzig in the 2020-21 season.
