The 2. Bundesliga is the second division in the German footballing system and was founded in 1974 (eleven years after the Bundesliga (top division). It is ranked below the Bundesliga and above the 3. Liga in the football pyramid. All clubs in this division take part in the DFB Pokal (a multi-league cup competition) annually. 1. FC Nürnberg, SC Freiburg, 1. FC Köln, Arminia Bielefeld and VfL Bochum all hold the record for the most 2. Bundesliga titles with four each.
