VfL Wolfsburg head into their game against Werder Bremen hoping for their first home win of the Bundesliga season, currently sitting three points out of the bottom three.
Match overview
VfL Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg have had a mediocre start to the season so far, starting off the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against the ten men of TuS Koblenz in the DFB-Pokal.
Following this, they have only won twice in the league but will show no gratitude towards the international break as they were finding some form after the 3-1 win against VfL Bochum last time out.
Jonas Wind remains the outstanding player for Wolfsburg he was last season, as he has three goals and an assist so far domestically this campaign.
With injuries to a lot of players, January signing Kevin Behrens will hope to work his way back into the team. WIth only one goal so far for the club in sixteen appearances, he has been disappointing considering his rapid start last season at Union Berlin.
Before Sunday's tie, Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl said: "We need to get all three points here. It will be a very, very intense game."
Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen are a high-conceding team this season. In their last three games they have conceded nine goals to Freiburg, Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich.
Last time out, only one goal was needed for Freiburg to overturn Bremen and send them comfortably into the bottom half with eight points. This was the second time Bremen had failed to score so far this season.
Strong away from home, Werder are yet to lose on the road this Bundesliga campaign. Wins against Hoffenheim and Mainz secured their last two and only two away wins this season.
Underperforming so far this season, Marvin Duksch has only managed one goal and is two behind both youngster Keke Topp and midfielder Jens Stage for his tally this season.
Ahead of the game against Wolfsburg, coach Ole Werner spoke about absentees in the squad when he said: "We have to pull together so that others now have the chance to show what they can do. We trust the guys who will be on the pitch."
