Schalke's 3-1 victory last weekend in the 2. Bundesliga against St. Pauli came at a cost: the players of the team experienced a gruelling training session days before.
Four days before the St. Pauli game, Schalke's team sat down in the locker room for two and a half hours to talk over their season amongst other issues.
After this, the players suffered an intense training session in which Schalke player Yusuf Kabadayi explained that "the session was essential for the victory and everyone was throwing up."
On that particular training session, goalkeeper Marius Müller said: "It was overdue. It's a bit like stocks and crypto: it's never too late to invest. It’s very important that we didn’t just use the clichés, but also addressed things that simply don’t work."
Some tactical changes were implemented following this by coach Karel Geraerts. Defensive midfielder Ron Schallenberg slipped into central defence for Marcin Kaminski against the club from Hamburg.
