Michael Gregoritsch after West Ham: "It is always something special to score a winning goal"

West Ham were beaten 1-0 by Freiburg in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie in the Europa-Park Stadion in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Just ten minutes before the end of regulation time, Freiburg's Michael Gregoritsch scored the winner to put Christian Streich's side ahead on aggregate before the return fixture.

However, a late scare in the form of a VAR check proved to be nervy for Freiburg despite the decision eventually being given in favour of the German side and no penalty for West Ham was to be awarded.

After the game, the match winner Michael Gregoritsch said in an interview with Sky Sports Austria: "It is alway something special to score a winning goal and I will enjoy it a lot for the team."

He added: "The win was deserved. It is like that, when you play at home you should win such a 50/50 game in the knockout phase and we did that."

Lastly, he mentioned the late drama with the VAR decision when he said: "If the decision takes that long it can't be clear. I did not know the rule that this situation was not a hand ball."
