Mainz head into the Saturday afternoon clash off the back of a narrow defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, whereas Borussia Mönchengladbach handed VfL Bochum a heavy defeat in a relegation tie.
Match Overview
Mainz 05
Mainz were unfortunate not to even get a point against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. They had the better chances within the game, and conceded two long-range strikes as they saw their efforts tumble.
In Bo Henriksen's first tie as Mainz coach, however, the carnival side won 1-0 deservedly after dominating Augsburg for over 100 minutes worth of playing time.
However, it is worth noting than even their former coach Jan Siewert managed victory in his first game at the club (2-0 vs Leipzig).
In the league, Mainz has the upper hand in recent form against Borussia Mönchengladbach as they have not lost in their last six ties with the Foals (three wins, three draws).
Lastly, Mainz coach Bo Henriksen spoke ahead of the game about Borussia Mönchengladbach this season: "Gladbach have some really good players in their team. Even though they haven't played to their full potential enough this season, we have a lot of respect for them."
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Borussia Mönchengladbach were dominant last week against an in-form VfL Bochum side. A 5-2 win ensured that they comfortably got all three points and in doing so they broke their record for the most goals scored in one game this Bundesliga season.
It was a team effort, with five different goal scorers. However, it is clear to see that they didn't miss their top scorer in the league this season in Alassane Pléa (seven goals).
At just twenty-one-years-old, Rocco Reitz has been touted as the next big talent from the Rhein side. He has five goals and two asissts from left-back in a stellar personal campaign.
In their last Bundesliga game against Mainz, Mönchengladbach managed a 2-2 draw.
Ahead of the Mainz match, Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Gerardo Seaone said: "We've got a clear picture of what awaits us from the last two games. The way Mainz play football has changed under their new head coach."
