Achieving his first ever Germany call-up in November, Marvin Ducksch has been a revelation for Werder Bremen this season following the sale of Niclas Füllkrug to Dortmund.
A Brief Overview Of Werder Bremen's Season
A Subpar Beginning
Only two points off the bottom three by matchday thirteen, the Bundesliga's "Hinrunde" for Werder Bremen mostly left a lot to be desired. Despite some improvement, back-to-back draws only saw them move three points clear of Union Berlin in 15th by the end of December.
A Near-Perfect 2024
Werder Bremen are unbeaten in 2024 currently and are the only team to have won all three consecutive games in the Rückrunde. With this pattern of results, Werder have found themselves in 9th place and crucially only two points away from a UEFA Conference League spot (currently occupied by SC Freiburg).
What role does Bremen's Ducksch play?
By looking Marvin Ducksch's role and his attributes he has gained whilst at Werder Bremen, it will be clear to see how these have helped to bring about positive change in the club's fortunes over the past seasons.
Aerial Authority
Standing 1.88 metres tall, Ducksch's aerial ability can be seen through the eighteen aerial duels won this season as well as the goal he scored against Augsburg in which he produced a terrific header to put Werder Bremen 2-0 up in their matchday fourteen victory.
Set-Piece Specialist
Not only being strong in the air, Marvin Ducksch provides a unique ability to be able to guide a ball over the opposition defence when delivering set-pieces. As Werder Bremen's corner taker, Ducksch managed to deliver a wonderful ball in to Niklas Stark against Augsburg to gain his fourth assist of the season.
Along with this, as Werder's dedicated free-kick taker, he has been entrusted in providing a threat direct from this medium of set-piece for a team that has provided only 154 crosses this season (second lowest in the Bundesliga).
A High Level of Experience
Having accrued over eighty Bundesliga games and over one hundred games in Germany's second division, Duksch provides the necessary experience to be able to have an impact on younger players like Justin Njinmah and Nick Woltemade. Having netted a career high twelve goals last season in a deadly striking partnership with Niclas Füllkrug, Ducksch has finally proved that he is able to provide in Germany's top division.
