In Germany manager Julian Nageslmann's first press conference ahead of the Nations League fixtures, he spoke about the recent team retirements, debutants and more.

Julian Nagelsmann made it clear that Joshua Kimmich would become the new national team captain for Germany, following the retirement of previous captain Ilkay Gündoğan in the summer.

About Joshua Kimmich, he said: "I have a different relationship to him than to others. I read that I spent Christmas with him, that is not true. However, he is very open and direct."

Speaking about the four players who retired, he said: "I spoke to Ilkay (Gündoğan), Manuel (Neuer) and Thomas (Müller). I accept and acknowledge their decisions, but the door is never closed here for them. If they show exceptional quality and performances for their club, they can always come back."

Nagelsmann also spoke about the Euro 2024 exit, and he said: "Such an event like at the home Euros triggers one extremely. Games are there to be won. One always wants to win."

Lastly, about the new goalkeeping hierarchy, the Germany manager said: "Marc (André ter Stegen) is the new number one. He has been the captain of Barcelona for multiple years and is the first choice there."
