After a good amount of weeks looking for a new coach, 1. FC Köln's board have landed on the former RB Salzburg manager Gerhard Struber for the 2. Bundesliga season.

The austrian manager was not heavily reported before it got leaked that he would be appointed as head coach, instead other options like Enrico Maaßen and Christian Eichner were reported in greater depth.

His most recent tenure came at RB Salzburg where he spent a year there from 2023 to 2024 until he got sacked this March after a loss to SK Sturm Graz.

He had a 58% win percentage at the club from Salzburg and this is his highest career win %. Previous roles have included being manager at New York Red Bulls, Barnsley, Wolfsberger AC and FC Liefering.
