Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was quick to curb the euphoria after the Bayern Munich 3-0 win as he highlighted that it was only a victory worth three points.

Following the game against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was very quick to not overstate the feeling of the victory.

Cautious with his approach during the game, he said: "We waited for our chances."

When asked whether this week was the most important for the club, Alonso said: "For us, every week is the most important for Bayer Leverkusen."

This victory against Bayern Munich meant that Xabi Alonso remains unbeaten against the record champions as a manager in the Bundesliga (two wins and a draw).

Whilst this season has been a revolutionary season for Bayer Leverkusen under Alonso, the fans, the staff and the players won't forget what happened in the 2001-02 season in the Bundesliga.

In this season, Bayer Leverkusen (with star player Michael Ballack on their books) just needed to win two of their last four games to win the Bundesliga but failed to do so in losing to Werder Bremen and Nürnberg in consecutive games.

In winning 'Die Meisterschale' this year, Leverkusen can put nicknames like "Neverkusen" and the German equivalent "Vizekuzen" behind them and show they have the ability to see out a campaign and be victorious.
