Union Berlin's tie with VfL Wolfsburg was suspended temporarily deep into the first half as tennis balls were thrown onto the pitch in protest of the DFL.

Union Berlin's fans decided to throw tennis balls onto the pitch therefore halting the game against VfL Wolfsburg in the 39th minute and temporarily suspending the game.

As usual, twelve minutes of silence were held at the start of the game in line with Bundesliga teams' efforts to show their anger towards the DFL.

The DFL made a statement this morning (available here), however it seems that this did little to nullify the protests in today's game.

The game has now restarted after around half an hour of protests and one failed attempt to restart play.

It is currently half-time at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei with the match level at nil-nil.

Former Union Berlin player Kevin Behrens made his return to Union Berlin's stadium today but is yet to score against his old club.
