The DFL has released a statement today following the Super League verdict made by the ECJ (the European Court of Justice).
The statement reads:
"The ECJ has confirmed that criteria for the approval of other competitions outside the association pyramid of the European sports model must be transparent, objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate - this is understandable and was to be expected. UEFA and FIFA are required to review their criteria, which have already been further developed, accordingly, adapt them if necessary and legally apply them. The ECJ also clarified in the press release that the decision of the ECJ does not mean that a competition such as the Super League necessarily has to be admitted. The legality of the Super League is a separate question."
The statement also mentioned how the DFL "explicitly supports the European sports model and rejects competitions outside the competitions organised by the associations and leagues."
The Bundesliga was one of only a few leagues in Europe which had no participants during the original European Super League plans made in Spring 2021.
