Saarbrücken will hope to make it two DFB-Pokal semi-finals in five years with victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, the Bundesliga side will hope to prevent a huge upset.
Match Overview
Saarbrücken
Saarbrücken have only lost once in the 3. Liga in 2024 (against Ingolstadt) and have won three of their last four league games.
The last time Saarbrücken made it to the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, they managed to beat Fortuna Düsseldorf and get to the semi-finals in 2020.
Despite improved form in 2024 in the 3. Liga, Saarbrücken remain in ninth place and are ten points off the top three in the race for promotion.
Kai Brünker is the club's top scorer in the league and has bagged ten goals this season and has also made one assist.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Borussia Mönchengladbach managed a tight and high-scoring 3-3 draw against arch rivals Köln last weekend at home. A Robin Hack double meant the Foals took the lead before Köln's youngster Damion Downs levelled the tie.
The Foals have only made it to the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal once in the past ten years and this was in the 2016-17 season where they lost on penalties against eventual runners-up Eintracht Frankfurt.
Mönchengladbach have also shipped multiple goals this Bundesliga season, with only Bochum and Darmstadt having conceded more than their 49 goals let in.
In spite of this, Gerardo Seoane's side are unbeaten in their last three in the league and have scored nine in these three ties.
Ahead of Tuesday, Gerardo Seoane chose to point out some issues with Saarbrücken's pitch when he said: "We have to adapt, no matter what the pitch is like. We have the right to get to the next round."
