RB Leipzig host Borussia Dortmund in Leipzig in the Bundesliga on matchday 31, with the aim of ending the Champions League semi-finalists top four hopes this season.
Match Overview
RB Leipzig
Marco Rose's Leipzig side beat Heidenheim 2-1 in a close encounter last weekend to create a two-point gap in the hunt for top four between themselves and Saturday's opponent.
RB Leipzig have hit an amazing stride since losing out narrowly on aggregate to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Since losing to Bayern Munich in February, Leipzig have won all but one game (against Mainz in late March) including big wins against 1. FC Köln and SC Freiburg.
However, the performance last weekend was perhaps a little warning sign that everything may not go smoothly on the weekend. Being level up until the 85th minute, Rose's side were perhaps a bit lucky to grab the three points.
After the tie last week against Heidenheim, the yellow card suspended RBL manager Marco Rose said: "Compliments to my team and the coaching staff. It was a difficult away game, which is what we expected."
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund were valiant in their efforts to stop Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten run this season last weekend but fell victim to a Josip Stanišic equaliser in the 97th minute.
It was an inspired performance and one that brings a lot of hope for Edin Terzić's side with more big games against opponents in both Europe and the Bundesliga still to come.
History, unfortunately for BVB, is not on their side as they have lost five of their last six games against Saturday's opponents in all competitions and also lost their last clash in the Bundesliga against them 3-2.
Ahead of the tie on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund's head coach Edin Terzić said: "Leipzig are an extremely pacey team, especially up front, and are always dangerous when they have space to run into, but we've been conceding a lot less goals in 2024."
