SC Freiburg have opted to extend the contract of vice-captain and midfielder Maximilian Eggestein after almost three years at the club.

Despite long-term coach Christian Streich leaving, it seems Maximilian Eggestein has retained faith in Freiburg.

With his contract expiring in 2025, Eggestein has chosen to extend his stay at the southern German side.

Since arrival at the club, he has made 116 appearances including appearing in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Europa League seasons.

On the contract extension, sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said: "Maxi has done a lot of the things we expected him to do when we signed him. He’s a great fit for the club both in terms of his ability and his personality."
