Currently the assistant coach at Freiburg, former captain and player Julian Schuster will take over from the departing Christian Streich for the 2024-25 season.

Kicker reports that the announcement for the new head coach will be undertaken later this week on Thursday or Friday.

The thirty-eight-years-old coach has been mainly focusing on the academy and cooperation between the first team and the youth levels during his stint as assistant coach at Freiburg.

Moreover, this continues the theme of Freiburg promoting talent in both coaching and personnel on the pitch. Taking the jump up to being the coach of the Bundesliga club is a big step for someone who has never coached a top-flight side before.
