At the age of 63, World Cup winner Andreas Brehme has sadly passed away. The left-back had a successful career playing for Inter Milan, Kaiserslautern and Bayern Munich.

Former Germany footballer Andreas Brehme sadly passed away on the evening of the 19th due to a cardiac arrest.

A highlight of his career, Andreas "Andi" Brehme scored the only goal in Germany's World Cup win in 1990 against Argentina.

Ending his career on a high, in his final season (1997-98) he won the Bundesliga with Kaiserslautern under Otto Rehhagel.

He made 86 appearances for the Germany national team and was a key member of the national team during the eighties and early nineties.

Bayern Munich paid tribute to the player in the statement below:

"FC Bayern are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of Andreas Brehme. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Andreas Brehme will forever be in our hearts, as a World Cup winner and, more importantly, as a very special person. He will forever be part of the FC Bayern family."
