SC Freiburg have announced that their long-serving coach Christian Streich is retiring after this Bundesliga season at the age of 58.

Christian Streich took over at Freiburg in December 2011 and has been the head coach of the side for over twelve years since then.

Streich has been a servant of the club and has brought them three Europa League campaigns during his time there.

Last season, he achieved his highest league finish when the club finished in fifth in the Bundesliga with 59 points and ensured back-to-back European campaigns for the first time in the club's history.

In a statement, Streich said: "After twelve years, it's the right time to bring in new energy, new people, new opportunities. I believe the players need this new energy."
