1. FC Köln's captain and wide midfielder Florian Kainz is set to stay at the club for the upcoming 2. Bundesliga season, in part thanks to his links to the new coach.

Florian Kainz looks prepared to become the next player to stay at 1. FC Köln and follow in the footsteps of Eric Martel, Jan Thielmann and Timo Hübers.

His best season at the club came in the 2022-23 edition of the Bundesliga, where he achieved fifteen goal contributions ("Scorerpunkte" in German) in the league.

The positional versatility of the Austrian left midfielder and winger has at times been exploited by previous managers, with the captain playing anywhere from attacking midfielder to defensive mid.

Most recently, he provided an assist for Ralph Ragnick's Austria side in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland in the last game ahead of the 2024 Euros.
