On the last and 34th matchday of the Bundesliga, multiple teams can be dragged into relegation or could keep themselves alive. However, which scenarios help each club?

Teams in contention

VfL Bochum - 14th in the Bundesliga: 33 points

Automatic Relegation:

VfL Bochum can no longer be automatically relegated.

Safety:

A draw (or better) with Werder Bremen on the final day would guarantee they stay up.

Play-off spot:

Bochum can only be put into the relegation play-offs if:

-They lose AND

-Mainz draw/win AND

-Union Berlin win

Mainz 05 - 15th in the Bundesliga: 32 points

Automatic Relegation:

Mainz 05 can no longer be automatically relegated.

Safety:

A win or a draw with VfL Wolfsburg on the final day would guarantee they avoid the relegation play-off spot.

Play-off spot:

Mainz can only be put into the relegation play-offs if:

-They lose AND

-Union Berlin win

Union Berlin - 16th in the Bundesliga: 30 points

Automatic Relegation:

Union Berlin can only fall into 17th place and be automatically relegated with a loss to Freiburg.

Safety:

Only a win and a loss from either Mainz or Bochum can make sure of avoiding the bottom three.

Play-off spot:

Union Berlin will only stay in the relegation play-offs if:

-They win AND

- Mainz and VfL Bochum avoid defeat on the final day

OR

-They draw

1. FC Köln - 17th in the Bundesliga: 27 points

Automatic Relegation:

1. FC Köln cannot survive automatically anymore, and can only hope for a play-off spot.

Safety:

Only a win against Heidenheim and a loss from Union Berlin against Freiburg can mean that Köln may survive.

Play-off spot:

1. FC Köln will only clinch the relegation play-off spot (16th) if:

-They win by three goals against Heidenheim AND

- Union Berlin lose

OR

-They win by two goals AND

-Union Berlin lose to Freiburg by 2+ goals
