Accompanied by a Instagram post which very much was not revered by 1. FC Köln fans, Davie Selke has made the decision to leave the club from the cathedral city.

Davie Selke's contract was automatically ended after 1. FC Köln's relegation from the Bundesliga due to a clause in his contract. His contract at the time would have been invalid for the 2. Bundesliga.

Therefore, with the club keen to keep their statistically best striker, new contract negotiations ensued but Selke was unable to agree with the club on new terms for the upcoming season.

In his post on the social media network Instagram, he stated that "the chance (to stay with Köln) was finally taken from me" in an apparent dig at the current sporting director Christian Keller and his team.

Keller, who previously had a director role at the newly promoted 2. Bundesliga side Jahn Regensburg, previously spoke about how the striker had received a contract offer from the club but did not sign.

Overall, this decision has allegedly left a bitter taste in the views of some fans as they believe it may have been one fuelled by money and greed in the wake of rumours linking the twenty-nine-year-old to the MLS or the Saudi Pro League.
