The Frauen-Bundesliga attendance record is over 38,000 from a game between Eintracht Frankfurt and Köln. 1. FC Köln play Werder Bremen on Sunday at the men's ground, but can they break the attendance record?
On Monday, 1. FC Köln frauen had sold over 20,000 tickets already for Sunday's game.
During Thursday, it was announced that this number had surpassed the 30,000 mark. But with Werder Bremen women's not being as big a pull as Eintracht Frankfurt women's in terms of quality it seems unlikely they would be able to sell enough to break the record.
When looking at the number of members the respective men's teams of Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt have (42,000 and 140,000), it is clear that Eintracht Frankfurt are much bigger and therefore would be able to sell more.
Looking at the quality of Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen comparitively, Werder are fifth in the Frauen-Bundesliga currently whereas Eintracht Frankfurt were in third last season ahead of their game with the Köln women's side.
With this all in mind, it remains an uphill battle to break this solid record.
