Christian Groß has decided to retire from professional football and leave Werder Bremen at the end of the 23-24 season. He has been at his current club Werder Bremen since 2019.

Christian Groß will play his last game in football at current club Werder Bremen at home against VfL Bochum on the last matchday, at the age of 35.

Groß joined Werder Bremen's under-23s (Werder Bremen II) in 2018 after a lengthy four-year spell at VfL Osnabrück.

The German defensive-midfielder has made thirteen appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has provided one assist.

In the 2021-22 season, the veteran midfielder helped Werder Bremen gain promotion back to the Bundesliga as he completed twenty-three starts.

In an interview for the club, Christian Groß said: "I came to the conclusion with my wife and family over the Christmas break that it was time for me to hang up my boots."

Later on in the interview, he added: "I never would have thought that I would rack up almost 100 Bundesliga appearances."
