After sacking Tim Walter on the 12th February, Bild report that Hamburg are set to reveal Steffen Baumgart as his successor.

Steffen Baumgart will reportedly be given a contract until 2025 with the club.

Enduring a successful spell as coach at 1. FC Köln, Baumgart managed to reach the UEFA Conference League in his first season at the club.

However, as the club began to struggle this season, a dip in performances this campaign saw him depart the Billy Goats in December following defeats to Union Berlin and SC Freiburg.

Baumgart was last in the 2. Bundesliga as SC Paderborn coach during the 2018-19 season as he took them to the Bundesliga in their second successive promotion under their former head coach.

In terms of playstyle, Steffen Baumgart's sides are renowned for their ability to cross the ball into dangerous areas and the usage of a high press.

Following multiple seasons in Germany's second tier, Hamburg have a clear goal in mind under their proposed new head coach which is reach the Bundesliga and get promoted.
