Steffen Baumgart has been announced as Tim Walter's successor at Hamburg this morning following Merlin Polzin's spell as interim coach.

New Hamburg coach Steffen Baumgart will take his first training session as HSV coach this afternoon at 15:00 GMT.

His first match is against SV Elversberg on Sunday afternoon in the 2. Bundesliga.

In a statement, Steffen Baumgart said: "I’m really pleased to be here and I'm looking forward to this challenge. I'm going to get straight to work with the lads. Our aim is clear - we want to get promoted."

Hamburg have twelve games left this season and currently sit third.

Seven points off St. Pauli (who are top of the league), Hamburg will look to gain an automatic promotion place under Steffen Baumgart.

Mark Uth to move to Hamburg and join Steffen Baumgart?

A clause in Mark Uth's contract sees him released a year early from his Köln contract upon relegation thus he has been linked with a move to Hamburg if this occurs.
